Recently, Attorney Barry Ansbacher, of Ansbacher Law, provided comment to a story by First Coast News regarding a case of potentially widespread orthopedic malpractice in the Jacksonville area. Dr. David Heekin, an orthopedic doctor at Ascension St. Vincent’s Riverside hospital, has injured hundreds of patients. Hospital executives allegedly knew of his inability to safely perform surgery on these patients, yet continued to allow him to do so anyway. Many of these patients are now seeking punitive damages from the hospital, which Mr. Ansbacher asserts they may receive, as long as there is enough evidence for a jury to determine someone acted recklessly.
