Mr. Stern is an experienced litigator with more than 30 years of trial experience. He has successfully represented clients through verdict in both state and federal courts.
He began practicing law in 1994 after graduating from Widener University School of Law in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. During law school, he served on the Moot Court Honor Society and received its Distinguished Service Award. He won first place in the Widener Moot Court Competition, was named Outstanding Oral Advocate in the National Moot Court Competition, and was elected to the Order of Barristers.
Mr. Stern holds the AV® Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating for ethics and legal ability. He passed the Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Florida bar examinations. He is currently admitted to practice in Florida state courts and before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Middle, and Northern Districts of Florida.
Mr. Stern has litigated numerous cases of first impression, including:
- Lefrock v. Walgreens Co., 2015 WL 226034: Established national precedent allowing pharmacists to assert “qualified immunity” in defamation cases asserted by the prescribing healthcare provider.
- Hassan v. North Dixie Fitness, 282 So. 3d 90 (Fla. 4th DCA 2019): Clarified whether gym owners have a duty to train or supervise members on the safe use of gym equipment.
- Gorham v. Zachry Indus., Inc., 105 So. 3d 629 (Fla. 4th DCA 2013): Addressed whether workers’ compensation immunity is a litmus test requiring separate proof of each statutory element.
Before law school, Mr. Stern served six years in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Sergeant. His honors include the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Achievement Medal, and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, as well as the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon and the Air Force Overseas Long Tour Service Ribbon.
From 2015 to 2017, Mr. Stern chaired the Florida Bar’s Military & Veterans Affairs Committee, where he led initiatives to expand legal services to the more than one million service members and their families across Florida, and strengthened partnerships with local bar associations and military legal offices.
Since 2004, Mr. Stern has volunteered with Gilda’s Club South Florida, supporting individuals and families affected by cancer. For more than 15 years, he has served as a Trustee Member of the Fort Lauderdale Riverwalk Trust, which contributes to the planning and development of downtown Fort Lauderdale.
